Harry Carmean | Artist and Educator
Harry Carmean (b. 1922, in Kansas US) is an American painter known for his figurative paintings and drawings based on the work of the old masters. He has mentored thousands of students in over 45 years of teaching, and inspired thousands more. Carmean continued to draw and paint in his Santa Barbara studio until his death in February 2022. He was only a few months shy of his 100th birthday.
The ideas of the Renaissance, Baroque, Mannerist and Impressionist art can all be seen in his work to varying degrees. Harry Carmean is known for practicing a form of drawing known as “draughtsmanship” in which specific art ideas are consistently applied throughout a drawing. He has also explored various themes, techniques and approaches in his painting over the years. He was an instructor at Art Center College of Design from 1952 through 1996. He headed the Life Studies Department for the last 25 years of his tenure there.

Very good figure drawings and paintings
Thanks so much for your comment Stanley. Harry Carmean was a masterful draughtsman, and an exceptional instructor. He only just passed away last year. He was almost 100 years old.
